Start with safety and an exact location

If anyone is injured, there is a fire, or traffic is in immediate danger, call 911 first. Do not enter a travel lane or try to move an unstable truck or shifted load. When it is safe to call JRL, give dispatch the road, direction of travel, nearest exit or cross street, and whether the vehicle is on the shoulder, in a lane or off the roadway.

Tell us what is down

Describe the tractor and trailer, whether the trailer is loaded, the cargo if known, and any visible leaks. Let us know about a rollover, jackknife, damaged axle or load shift. These details help us plan heavy wrecker, rotator and cleanup support. Photos can help explain access and vehicle position, but only take them from a safe place.

What happens on scene

The recovery approach depends on the vehicle position, terrain and cargo. Our crew assesses access, rigging and equipment needs before lifting or pulling. Recovery and towing are separate steps: once the vehicle can be moved, dispatch can discuss its destination and whether truck and trailer repair or equipment transport is needed. Keep your carrier or fleet contact and preferred destination available.

Our Pottsville base supports calls across Schuylkill County, including I-81, Route 61 and Route 209; Berks County, including I-78 and the Reading area; and Luzerne County, including the Hazleton and Wilkes-Barre areas; and Carbon County, including Jim Thorpe, Lehighton and the I-80 corridor. A highway shoulder, industrial access road and rural delivery site need different plans. Give us the actual incident location, not just the nearest town.
